BUSTY AND THE BASS have been making audience groove to their music for almost a decade. To kick start their tour, they had Jean-Luc Oicle direct a four part music video teaser to their album BUSTY AND THE BASS x S.T.S. ‘KARNEVAL EP’
To launch there tour, Busty and the Bass released EP Karneval. Directed by Jean-Luc Oicle
Montreal jazz-funk collective Busty and the Bass have teamed up with Philly-by-way-of-Atlanta rapper STS to present KARNEVAL EP, a collection of soulful late night hip-hop centring around the theme of a forgotten fairground, evoking memories of relationships, desire, and nostalgia. The EP ebbs and flows as it explores different and contrasting sonic bounds - from sultry smooth ballads (featuring the soulful falsetto of Jordan Brown) to bouncy funk/disco with nods to Prince and Michael Jackson - all connected through a shared feeling of frustrations with love, sexual temptation, and an impatience for those feelings to transpire.
As asssitant, we tried to create the circus and cowboy theme of the video. In setting, we were located in the countryside of Quebec, a nice hour drive where there was a setting a setting of a old attic, seen below with the candles, a western set and large grass fields.
On set was one of the assistance to the lead art director. I helped build the circus tent and helped decorate each set for each song. The music videos took place in an abandoned western town in Western Quebec, I had to travel to each moving location to prep for the next song/scene for the band.
